Gramscian damage

I identified some of the most important of the Soviet Union’s memetic weapons. Here is that list again:

  • There is no truth, only competing agendas.

  • All Western (and especially American) claims to moral superiority over Communism/Fascism/Islam are vitiated by the West’s history of racism and colonialism.

  • There are no objective standards by which we may judge one culture to be better than another. Anyone who claims that there are such standards is an evil oppressor.

  • The prosperity of the West is built on ruthless exploitation of the Third World; therefore Westerners actually deserve to be impoverished and miserable.

  • Crime is the fault of society, not the individual criminal. Poor criminals are entitled to what they take. Submitting to criminal predation is more virtuous than resisting it.

  • The poor are victims. Criminals are victims. And only victims are virtuous. Therefore only the poor and criminals are virtuous. (Rich people can borrow some virtue by identifying with poor people and criminals.)

  • For a virtuous person, violence and war are never justified. It is always better to be a victim than to fight, or even to defend oneself. But ‘oppressed’ people are allowed to use violence anyway; they are merely reflecting the evil of their oppressors.

  • When confronted with terror, the only moral course for a Westerner is to apologize for past sins, understand the terrorist’s point of view, and make concessions.

Sounds ominously familiar…

The Curmudgeon Seeks A Safe Space In History: Part 2

When King Henry died, his successor King Richard I felt bad about the situation and sent orders to release Eleanor from supervision. Her custodians had already released her! I assume she was found sitting on a pile of gold next to the dead body of her jailer; possibly twirling a dagger between her fingers and drawing up plans for a Death Star. Empowered? How about Supervillian!

After a couple more daring escapes, kidnappings, and betrayals, Eleanor died. It was 1204. They chained the crypt shut to keep her from coming back from the dead with another plan to seize power.

Bwhahahaha! I’ll never be able to discuss Eleanor of Aquitaine again without chuckling over her ‘huge tracts of land’. Then there’s this gem:

The US government detonated hundreds of above-ground nuclear explosions from 1945 to 1963 — until the first nuclear test-ban treaty was signed. Now a team has rescued thousands of classified films that were kept in high-security storage.

The 1911 Heat Wave Was So Deadly It Drove People Insane

Ice and electric fans were luxuries, air conditioning unknown. Pedestrians fainted from the stifling heat. At night, the streets were filled with exhausted mothers walking up and down, trying to comfort their crying babies. They feared leaving them in their beds, lest they fail to wake up.  One police officer described the night during the 1911 heat wave as a ‘giant wail.

This is before man was causing ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’ by releasing CO2 into the atmosphere.

Political Correctness Destroys History and Christianity

Reading left-wing sources might give you the impression that evil Christians in Europe wanted to take back the holy land from the peaceful Muslims. Here’s a map you’ve probably never seen, showing the battles waged by Muslims against Christians. Christians fought back by focusing on the holy lands. Muslims had waged 548 battles before the First Crusade in 1095 called by Pope Urban II.

Islam is not a religion. It is a totalitarian political movement. It needs to be defeated and banned by all civilized nations.

Genius of 19th Century Farmers

Large amounts of leisure time to pursue family bonds, simple things

One aspect of this seeming utopia that is often forgotten, however, is that the standard of living “enjoyed” by these workers and families was often shockingly low.

A life of no modern healthcare, no travel for pleasure, no electronics, few books or reading material, and a very-low-quality education can be had by a great many people without the sorts of work schedules we now endure.
