MBD’s Trump Problem, and Mine

I dislike videos. Especially videos posted as “news”.

I know that’s not the point of the article but this passage stood out to me as the best description of the problem with video news.

Watching TV is no substitute for reading, because TV can never convey ideas faster than human speech (i.e., about 150 words per minute), whereas a collegiate-level reader can absorb the written word much faster. This blog post is about 1,600 words. It would take 10-12 minutes to read it aloud, but you’ll probably reach the end much quicker. Also, the written word has a permanence that the spoken word does not. To absorb complex ideas, and to commit them to memory, the written word is superior.

Agreed. Give me a written article or column.

If you are considering buying a WordPress plan—don’t. They ‘improved’ the post editor… improved it so much that it is unusable. The old one was simple and intuitive. This new one makes it difficult to do the most simple task… like preview. Takes three clicks now instead of one. Idiocy. Inserting an image now involves opening a huge sidebar and finding the insert image function. Previously it was right there at the bottom of the editor.

The new and ‘improved’ post editor reminds me of nothing so much as ‘Common Core’ math. Take a simple task and make it as difficult and complex as possible.

See? I thought I had finished my rant but wait! There’s more! I was going to add a category to this post but… I can’t find that function. It used to be in the right sidebar. There is no right sidebar now. Where the hell is the category function?

Wait! There’s more! I was going to publish this ‘as is’ and hit the Publish button. Did it publish? NO! A new sidebar opened with a pre-publishing checklist.

This is ridiculous!
