The ancient War between reality and fantasy continues\u2026<\/p>\n

As James Lindsay points out, science is \u201cby definition anti-Gnostic,\u201d because \u2013 if practiced as intended \u2013 it seeks to describe nature as it is through empirical reason. That is, science observes evidence in the physical world, and only then bases its theoretical conclusions \u2013 its Knowledge \u2013 on those observations of reality. After which we can then use it to achieve some relative progress by \u201cbetter according our lives with reality as it is and thus doing better in reality.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In contrast, Lindsay identifies \u201cthe general madness of the world at the present\u201d as resulting from the \u201cparasitic bugbear\u201d of Gnosticism, and specifically what he categorizes as \u201cScientific Gnosticism.\u201d What makes Scientific Gnosticism different from science is that it inverts the above process: it puts the conclusions of Theory (its Gnosis) ahead of empirical observation of the world.\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026And if the world does not accord with Theory, then the world is wrong, and it \u201cmust seek to call truths things which are not.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
