I’d heard of Steve Vai but knew very little about him and had never heard him play. As far as I knew. Turns out he was with Frank Zappa before going solo, so I probably did hear him.<\/p>\n

Steve Vai has a new “guitar.”<\/p>\n

It’s guitarist\u00a0Steve Vai<\/a>‘s\u00a0newly designed Ibanez “guitar”.\u00a0 He calls it The Hydra,\u2026<\/p>\n

The Hydra is a many faceted creature with two-headstocks, three-necks that host 7 and 12-string guitars; a 4-string \u00be scale length bass; 13 sympathetic harp strings; half-fretless necks; single-coil, humbucking, piezo, MIDI and sustainer pickups; floating and hardtail tremolo bridges and phase splitters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A strange beast it is, too. Unique. One of a kind.<\/p>\n

And Vai makes it sounds great! That kind of talent is astronomically rare. I mean the kind of talent to dream this instrument up and then actually play it.<\/p>\n
