Here are some of the facts the Times left out:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
\n\n\u2666 The gold Chevy Cruze Antwon fled did not merely \u201cmatch the description of\u201d a car used in a drive-by shooting: It was the car used in the drive-by shooting, as proved by surveillance video posted online days after the shooting and shown to the jury.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 The video shows 13 shots being fired from the back seat of that exact car, with \u2014 according to the prosecutor \u2014 Antwon riding in the front seat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 The backseat passenger, Zaijuan Hester, later pleaded guilty to the drive-by shooting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 One of the victims of the drive-by shooting told police it was Antwon who shot him. \u201cThe beef was between me and him,\u201d William Ross told a Pennsylvania State Police officer. \u201cThat car came by, he shot me, I ran to the store.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 The jitney driver told police that, right before the shooting started, he heard the backseat passenger ask, \u201cIs that him?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 The gun used in the drive-by was recovered in the back seat of the car.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 A stolen gun was found under Antwon\u2019s seat, an empty magazine in Antwon\u2019s pants pocket, and there was gunpowder residue on Antwon\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 The car stopped by the officer was riddled with bullet holes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u2666 The jury that unanimously acquitted the officer was led by an African American foreman, who stoutly defended the verdict.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\nNone of that made it into the Times story on the trial\u2019s conclusion.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Not surprising. Journalists tell stories. They are not reporters. Stories are fiction. Reporters would report the news, not tell a fictional story.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
